Over 100 students from Amundsen High School, a Chicago Public School, participated in our fourth project co-funded by the Oppenheimer Family Foundation. For this one, students asked questions of each other and gave answers that illuminated what it's like to grow up in Chicago. Not only did the students express themselves in unique styles but they created a historical library in a medium that can be heard and seen around the world. These digital recordings and digital pictures--and even a handful of drawings--are now on the Internet so that people everywhere can hear what Chicago Public School students in 2006 have to say about themselves, their city, and their world. A dozen speak in poetic form about what they see outside their window. Only a few of the students use offensive language. Take a listen:
